Can I charge NICD batteries with NIMH charger ?
I have an NIMH charger which is written on it “Use only with NIMH batteries ” . Can I use it to charge different kinds of batteries , for example , NICD ?
I wouldn’t. They need to be charged in different ways. The best you could hope for is reduced battery life and the worst is exploding batteries.
Why risk it just get another charger
“One of the Nickel-Cadmium’s biggest disadvantages was that the battery exhibited a very marked negative temperature coefficient. This meant that as the cell temperature rose, the internal resistance fell. This could pose considerable charging problems particularly with the relatively simple charging systems employed for lead-acid type batteries. Whilst lead-acid batteries could be charged by simply connecting a dynamo to it, with a simple electromagnetic cut out system for when the dynamo is stationary, or an over current occurs, the nickel-cadmium under a similar charging scheme would exhibit thermal runaway, where the charging current would continue to rise until the over current cut out operated or the battery destroyed itself. This was the principal factor that prevented its use for engine starting batteries. Today with alternator based charging systems with solid state regulators, the construction of a suitable charging system would be relatively simple, but the car manufacturers are reluctant to abandon tried and tested technology. In any event, nickel-cadmium technology is falling out of favour.”

4 Tips About Your Samsung Cell Phone Battery
Here are some basics you should know about your Samsung Cell Phone Battery. Most of the info here can also be applied to any other cell phone so, for instance, if someone else in your home has an LG this would work for them as well.
1)Battery variety: often misunderstood and misrepresented. There are four battery types used in cell phone batteries. The following list is ranked oldest to newest. Whenever possible, you DO want the newest type for your Samsung phone.
•Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) – The oldest battery type used in cell phones. They’re the heaviest and smallest capacity battery type. These can be somewhat hard to find. If your Samsung cell phone is pretty new you probably done have this type.
•Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) – Well known battery about 1-2 years ago. They are lighter than Nickel Cadmium batteries, but weigh more than Lithium batteries. These should be cycled once in a while for optimum performance. Again, any recent or new cell phones may not have this type.
•Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) – This was the latest battery technology before lithium polymer. They have a higher power density than NiMh and NiCd batteries. Li-Ion batteries generally have become the de-facto. For most people, this battery technology represents the best combination of size, capacity, and value. Most of the current Samsung cell phones will be using these, but, check with a reputable cell phone dealer to verify this. These types of batteries don’t suffer from the poor memory effect and can be recharged anytime.
•Lithium Polymer - The latest and greatest being used in cell phones. They have a higher power density than the other types. This allows manufacturers to provide either a thinner or lighter battery, or some combination of both. They can be hard to find. They are available for several Samsung phones. Lithium Polymer batteries do not suffer from the poor memory effect and can be recharged anytime.
2)Battery freshness: often overlooked. Always make sure you have the freshest battery possible. A battery can lose it’s ability to hold a charge as time goes on and you DON’T want your cell phone dying especially if you just purchased it. You want batteries that move off of shelves quickly to be sure they aren’t old.
3) Battery life: a combination of a battery’s drainage and capacity and is normally seen quoted for standby and/or talk time. Usually quoted for ideal conditions. But, remember, that most of us will rarely use our cell phones full under ideal conditions all of the time. And, if your using your Samsung phone in analog mode it will drain the battery more quickly. And be careful when in areas that are difficult to get cell phone coverage such as buildings or tunnels since your phone battery will drain because your phone will continually be trying to make a connection.
4)Size: terms like slim, ultra slim, main, and extended are commonly used by different cell phone vendors and is normally determined by the battery type and capacity. You can offset this by selecting your Samsung battery made from lithium ion or lithium polymer since they pack more power in the same amount of space.
