How long will the average car battery last with an average 4 speaker car radio on aux. power with the car off?
I have a 1991 Toyota Corolla with a 4×50 Watt Sony CD Radio MP3 and 4 10 watt speakers installed. How long can I have it on aux./accesory power without killing my battery to the point where it won’t start? Car works perfectly.
Your situation depends on how good your battery is. A good battery running a Stereo and your stock speakers should be good for at least two hours. Your really consuming about a total of 60-Watts if you have the music at full volume. Most headunits dont put out what they claim, especially Sony units. I know I’ve had plenty. Turn your car on every 30 minutes just to make sure you dont get stranded with a dead battery.

Why I Like My Solar Radio
I am not really one of those people who think the worst of things, but I recently decided it was time for me to put together my own home preparedness kit in case of a natural disaster. I had not really thought of doing this before until we had a power outage in our town not too long ago and it lasted for several hours. We could not charge our cell phones, use the Internet, or turn on the TV to find out what was going on, heck, even the home phone was out because it is portable and the charge was used up. It really put me and my family in a bind so I decided I was not going to be in this situation again. I started researching what items to put in my kit and I soon found that a solar crank radio was be ideal to meet my communication needs. Here I want to explain a little about these types of radios and perhaps you too will find a need for it in your own disaster kit. What is really nice about my solar radio is that it has many different ways it can be powered up. First off, it will use standard batteries and run like a champ for several months like this. It can also be plugged into the wall and run off of standard household voltage. Here is the really cool part, it also has a built in battery pack that can be charged with a plug in adapter. I have found that this rechargeable battery can run for up to eighteen hours on a full charge, and the battery is supposed to have a life of something like ten years. In addition, my unit has USB adapter so I can even charge it up off of my home computer. Now for the really high tech stuff, my crank radio has two additional emergency sources of power. The first is based on solar power as the radio has a small solar panel attached to it. All I need to do is open up the solar power and face it squarely towards direct sunlight and my radio will start working immediately, and the battery will start charging up. When the solar panel does not work because it is night time or it is cloud y outside it has a hand crank power generator built in. All I need to do is turn the crank for several minutes and it will charge the battery for up to thirty minutes, crank it longer and the battery will store even more energy. I love the fact that I can take my emergency radio wherever I go and I know there will always be a way for me to power it up. I really like to use the solar panel, and it is simple as unfolding it and directing at the sun and I am good to go. Truthfully, the crank power mechanism is sort of a pain to use, but it really is the last option in case of an emergency and you have no other options for power. The crank does work very well, it is just inconvenient to use at time. The radios are built extremely well built and rugged, and can withstand years of abuse and hold it very well. These are sometimes called flashlight radios, as many units have wither a built in or detachable flashlight as well, and some of the are rechargeable off of the radios power supply.
