There are some important things you need to know about acetaldehyde in drinking water. Acetaldehyde is a chemical that’s used in numerous chemical processes. It’s also been found in the drinking waters of more than one American city.
For one thing, the EPA believes that acetaldehyde is a carcinogen. Now, this has not been formally proven, but the EPA bases its claim on the fact that this chemical is known to be carcinogenic in animals. Also, there is a well documented case of workers in an acetaldehyde factor in Germany having a statistically significant increase in certain types of cancers. Again, according to the EPA, there is evidence that acetaldehyde is a neurotoxin in animals. It can apparently cause depression of the nervous system and neural degeneration.
Just so you know, I’m not an expert in this stuff. I’m a journalist who writes about environmental, water quality, and health issues. I’m also an internet marketer. You’ll need to make your own determinations about the dangers of acetaldehyde in drinking water. For my part, after reading the EPA’s report, which you can find easily through Google, I’m satisfied. I’m adding acetaldehyde to that long list of stuff that’s probably in my drinking water, and that I don’t want to drink.
The big issue here is what can you do to protect yourself, not only from acetaldehyde in drinking water, but from the myriad toxic metals, pesticides, prescription drugs, etc. that are routinely found in our treated water. Obviously, our water treatment facilities are woefully inadequate, and we’re not going to get the protection we need from these pollutants by working through our local governmental authorities. The only solution that I’ve been able to find is to filter my water myself at home. That way, I’ll be as sure as possible that the water I drink and that my family drinks is pure…or as pure as it’s possible to be.
So, what types of water filters or water purifiers would you use to address the issue of acetaldehyde in drinking water, along with all of the other probable contaminants? Well, let’s quickly take a look at what’s out there.
The four most popular types of water filters and purifiers are distillers, reverse osmosis filters, ultraviolet light sterilizers, and carbon and ceramic filters. Distillers are not that great for getting rid of volatile chemicals like acetaldehyde, or any of the other volatile organic chemicals that are found in our domestic water systems. Reverse osmosis works great, except it tends to take the trace minerals like potassium out of the water. Ultraviolet light is one of my favorites, but that’s only for organic impurities. It will do nothing for chemicals like acetaldehyde in drinking water. Finally carbon and ceramic filters are probably your best all around filtering technology.
There’s surely more to know about this important and complex subject than I can get across in a 500 word article. Get online and start doing your own research! Whatever you do, buy some sort of water filter or water purifier, according to your needs and budget. You’ll be glad you did!

A cheap yet fully effective type of water filter that relies upon the ceramic material’s pore size structure to filter dirt, debris, and bacteria out of the water, ceramic water filtration provides clean, safe and affordably wholesome drinking water for residential, industrial, and institutional uses (such as travel and marine purposes, disasters, and emergency situations). Although their flow rates are considered slow, ceramic water filtration systems are actually ceramic water filters that comes out as cartridges that fits the normal bench top filter.
At the ceramic filter element’s core is what is known as Diatomaceous Earth, a fossil substance made up of tiny silicon shells left by trillions of microscopic one-celled algae called diatoms that have inhibited the earth’s waters for the last 150 million years or more over.
Some ceramic filters incorporate nano-silver steeped into the porous ceramic outer shell so it can trap bacteria as low as.22 microns, which is controlled by the silver that, upon contact with water, releases small quantities of positively charged metal ions taken into the bacteria’s cell’s enzyme, thereby neutralizing the bacteria. In fact, laboratories considered filtering the drinking water with a ceramic filter that has an effective pore size of.01 micron to.45 microns to be bacteriologically sterile and.45 microns to 1.0 micron to be bacteriologically safe. As the top layer of the ceramic filter and the contaminants are brushed off and flushed away by running water, a new layer becomes available and ready to go with them.
