I have 3 coaxial inputs on the back of my tv, VHF-UHF, TO CONVERTER, AND AUX…what do these mean?
I have a 36 in Sony Wega. Right now I have my digital cable going into the standard VHF-UHF input. What do the other 2 inputs do? Does this mean I have a digital tv? Can I get digital channels with the “converter” or “aux” inputs. How does this setup work?
You do not have a “digital television” (or DTV.) If you connect a DTV compliant set-top box or a satellite receiver to your TV you will be able to view digital television programming.
All of the following connection configurations assume you’re not connecting a VCR.
If you are NOT using a ‘set-top’ (or cable) box and you are directly connecting a 75Ω coaxial (CATV) cable OR an antenna (using a 300Ω-to-75Ω balun) then you should use the VHF/UHF input.
If you are NOT using a ‘set-top’ (or cable) box and you’re connecting BOTH a 75Ω coaxial (CATV) cable AND an antenna (using a 300Ω-to-75Ω balun) then Sony recommends that you connect the 75Ω coaxial to AUX input and the antenna (via a 300Ω-to-75Ω balun) to the VHF/UHF input.
Note: use the ANT button on the remote control to switch back and forth between the TV’s VHF/UHF and AUX inputs.

If you ARE using a ‘set-top’ (or cable) box where only the premium or Pay Per View channels are scrambled:
1. Connect the 75Ω coaxial CATV cable from your cable company to the TV’s VHF/UHF input jack.
2. Using a 75Ω coaxial cable to connect the TV’s TO CONVERTER output jack to the cable box’s input jack. (The TV’s internal converter lets you switch between unscrambled signals coming straight into the TV and scrambled signals coming from the cable box output, eliminating the need for an external splitter.)
3. Using another 75Ω coaxial cable connect the cable box’s output jack to the TV’s AUX input jack.
Run the Auto Setup program on your TV to automatically setup the Channel List.
After you’ve programmed the remote control you will be able to use the remote control to change channels coming through the cable box to the TV’s AUX input jack as well as changing channels coming directly into the TV’s VHF/UHF input.
With this connection, you can use all the dual picture features for unscrambled channels coming directly into the TV’s VHF/UHF input jack. However, you can use only some of the dual picture features for channels coming through the cable box to the TV’s AUX input jack.

If you are using a ‘set-top’ (or cable) box where all CATV channels are scrambled:
1. Connect the 75Ω coaxial CATV cable to the cable box’s input jack.
2. Connect a 75Ω coaxial cable from the cable box’s output jack to the TV’s VHF/UHF jack.
With this connection, all channels come into the TV through your cable box and only unscrambled channels are passed to the TV. This will not allow the use of dual picture features.
Also, with this configuration you must use the cable box to switch channels, therefore you need the TV to stay on the channel the cable box is set to (usually channel 3 or 4). You can use the TV’s Channel Fix feature to lock in a specific channel.
