Head Headset
Is there an affordable, but durable, headset with a mic for PC?
I’ve broken two of my headsets now by accidentally tripping over the wire and snapping off the mic head. Is there an affordable headset that can withstand a few snags? Are there wireless headsets with mics?
I have a Plantronics Headset, that came with the Microsoft Gamevoice device some years ago (I think 6 or 7 years or something like that).
It still works great, survived 3 moves to different towns, and after the foam pads on the headset fell apart, I could call Plantronics and get a free replacement.
Try to find a reasonably priced Plantronics headset, and you’ll be happy for a long time.

Headset – A sign of clarity
A headset is a headphone combined with a microphone. Headsets provide the equivalent functionality of a telephone handset with hands-free operation. They are used in call centers and by people in telephone-intensive jobs. Many people use headsets at the computer so they can converse and type comfortably. There are many different styles of headsets available, according to the need of the person.
Headsets typically have only one speaker like a telephone, but also come with speakers for both ears. Standard headsets with the headband worn over the head are known as over-the-head headsets. Headsets with headband going over the back of the user’s neck are known as backwear headset or behind-the-neck headsets. Headsets that are worn over the ear with a soft ear-hook are known as over-the-ear or earloop headset; these headsets do not have a headband. There are also headsets in the market which are designed so that users can change the wearing method by assembling and dis-assembling various parts, known as convertible headsets.
Telephone headsets usually refers to headsets used to connect to a fixed line telephone system, be it PSTN or PABX (office system telephones). A telephone headset functions by replacing the handset of a telephone; hence it cannot operate on its own. All telephone headsets come in a standard 4P4C modular connector commonly referred to as an RJ-9 connector), which is exactly the same as a telephone handset. By removing the handset and replacing it with the headset, users can talk on the phone without holding the handset. As research shows, many office workers suffer from Telephone Neck Syndrome (TNS) due to constantly squeezing the telephone handset with their neck and shoulder during conversations.
A quality headset permits clarity of voice on both ends of the conversation. What does this do? It eliminates the possibility of miscommunication, therefore shunting incomplete and bad information from important calls. Headsets also eliminate the need for either party to consistently repeat themselves. This leads to shorter and more efficient telephone communication. Those extra seconds of missed information and bad communication practices add up to all kinds of expensive scenarios, especially for a call center. Picture being more comfortable in what you are being paid to do, chances are very good that your production output will benefit from the comfort a headset will provide you. The same holds true for anyone else. Employees are an investment. Insuring their comfort will enhance that investment resulting in more calls, better concentration and over all first-class interaction with your clients. Headsets offer the ultimate in comfort for the user.
