Ham radio or CB help needed?
Can a neighbour listen in to our home (conversations etc) if we have a baby monitor and (Digital) cordless phones through a Ham Radio or a CB – not sure what he has ….. but some weird things are happening here ……
It depends on the equipment, but there have been cases where hams have picked up audio from baby monitors. In fact, in one publicized case (below), a baby monitor picked up what may have been hams rebroadcasting NASA video on a nearby frequency. So, it’s possible that your baby monitor may experience interference; your digital phone less likely.
Since you’re using Commonwealth spelling, I’m assuming you’re not in the U.S., but for what it’s worth, consumer electronics in the U.S. operate under what is called Part 15, which requires them to accept any interference from licensed services such as ham radio (but not CB). Other countries may have similar rules.
I would suggest as a first step, if you are able to find the source of interference, and he/she does turn out to be an amateur radio op, that you politely approach him/her. Most hams are knowledgeable and cooperative, would like to know if their activities cause interference, and should try to accommodate you.
