Electricity Usage
How can I make hydrogen with salt and metal alloy (and of course water). With no electricity usage.?
How would I separate the gases? Etc. All answers are apreciated
If you mean Sodium chloride as the salt, then I know of no easy way to make Hydrogen gas except by using electrolysis which requires electricity. This separates the water into Hydrogen and Oxygen gases but each at a different electrode.
Hydrogen can be made using mineral acids and many metals or very strong bases with metals like Aluminum. Alkali metals (Lithium, Sodium and Potassium) all react with water to produce Hydrogen gas.
Lithium or Sodium hydride (as the salt) should react with water to give Hydrogen gas, but these are very expensive and even dangerous to use.
LiH + H2O –> LiOH + H2
NaH + H2O –> NaOH + H2
