ham radio enclosures

Does anyone out there know about ham radio’s and equipment for them? Or know some good websites for me to look?
I bought a storage unit with alot of ham radio stuff in it. I am not real familiar with the stuff. Some of it actually says what it is with model numbers. The other stuff I do not know where to begin. I can take some pictures if needed. Thanks to all that read ![]()
I also shoud add that most of this stuff is probly vintage because it is rather old looking. I would just like to see what it would be worth and exactly what certain things might be as in meters, amplifiers…ect. Thanks
What are you trying to do with the stuff? Get an idea of how much it is worth, I imagine? The best thing I could suggest is eBay. A lot of ham gear gets traded on eBay and if you search titles and descriptions, plus search completed auctions, you should be able to see what other people have sold similar equipment for.
The reason why I don’t suggest a current ham radio retailer is because like consumer electronics, the same models aren’t sold year after year. Manufacturers are always coming out with new models with more bells and whistles. Some do sell some used equipment like Amateur Electronic Supply for example. I believe I speak for most hams in saying that AES’s used gear is “overpriced” even if it comes with a 90 day warranty and was looked over by a “professional”.
A place where you may have some luck identifying unknown gear is RigPix.com. eHam.com has a wealth of information as well.
Now that you’ve figured out what everything is and how much stuff is worth, you’ll probably want to unload of it. eBay is an option. If you’re up for it, you may have some luck at a local hamfest. A hamfest is a gathering of ham radio aficionados for the purpose of buying/selling gear. The ARRL has a listing of hamfests in the US and there’s probably one somewhere around you within the next couple of months. It’ll probably cost you a few bucks to set up a table, but you’re guaranteed hundreds (in some cases thousands and tens of thousands) of sets of interested eyeballs on your gear and you’ll get cash on the spot for it rather than worrying about shipping, eBay fees, etc.
RigPix has vintage gear and there are classifieds on eHam specifically for vintage gear as well. There are some traders on the forums at QRZ also.

Music companies have had to figure out what to do about illegal music downloads and the music download web site. The legal battle continues but they have fought back by offering the consumer a legal alternative, the music download site to get a digital music download. These sites let you get what music you want, from who you want, when you want.
These music download sites include, believe it or not, Napster, with over 500,000 digital music downloads, eMusic, where you can get 50 free music downloads just for starters, Musicmatch, who has a great membership package, Realrhapsody, which offers a very nice two-week free trial, and one of my favorites and their “Always Low Prices” is the Wal-Mart music download, with songs as low as .88 cents.
Legal music download sites or pay-per-song music programs let you pay for the songs you want. No more buying entire CD’s just for that one maybe two popular hits. Prices range from .79 to .99 per song. If you want an entire CD it only costs around $10 through these digital music download sites.
Some of these programs feature more than just music downloads.
For instance, Realrhapsody and Musicmatch offer intenet radio which feature many programmable, commercial-free radio stations.
Check out the information provided about these legal music download sites and compare, because it can make a difference in the price you pay. Of course you want to find the price that best fits your budget, but you should also check and see what else these sites have to offer before you make your final decision.
Ultimately you will be able to start or add to your current music library with high-quality, legal digital music downloads from legitimate music download sites. The great benefit is that once you purchase your music you may download and burn free musc CDs or transfer it to a portable listening device.

Jimmy Dean dies at 81; country music star and sausage king
The Texas-born entertainer, who hit it big with the Grammy-winning ‘Big Bad John’ in 1961, also had his own TV variety shows and a role on ‘Daniel Boone.’ But many know him from his sausage brand and commercials. When the Country Music Assn. announced in February that Jimmy Dean would be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame later this year, Dean joked, “I thought I was already in there.”

Does anybody know why Chrysler is not shipping spare parts to Europe on time?
I own a Cheep in Vienna (Austria) and are waiting for spare Parts already 4 month. There are troubles with the brakes and according to the contract Chrysler is supposed to replace them. Why the long waiting time. 4 month? I was told there are about a few thousands of European Customers waiting for spare Parts. Thanks for your answers.
Just curious, what is the year and model of Jeep you are waiting for parts on? The newer ones, 2005 and up, there seem to be plenty of parts availible. Is there a problem with the dealer you are working with? I suggest contacting the District Mgr. for your dealership there or Chrysler customer service. There will be able to get your Jeep parts more quickly.

When facing the diagnosis of prostate cancer, for most patients, the overwhelming focus is on eradicating the disease. However once the cancer has been successfully treated, the side-effects of treatment can have a major impact on quality of life.
I have seen many patients following a prostatectomy who are very distressed by their inability to resume normal sexual intercourse. Yet frequently, at the time of diagnosis, these patients did not view impotence as a major concern when they made their choice of treatment.
It would seem that we need to do more to understand patients and their preferences when they are choosing treatment for prostate cancer and offer them a wider range of options to meet their needs.
Radical prostatectomy, which involves the complete removal of the prostate, is the treatment of choice for 30-50% per cent of patients with organ confined prostate cancer. Its appeal lies in the degree of certainty it offers in terms of removing the disease in one strike.
A traditional radical prostatectomy is undertaken using wide margins around the prostate, damaging the nerves which control the blood supply to the penis. This has been understood to be the safest way of eradicating cancer but causes impotency.
Specialised urological surgeons have been carrying out nerve-sparing prostatectomies for over 10 years. The task of safely removing all cancer cells without harming the hair-thin adjacent nerves demands a very high level of technical skill.
It is hard to measure outcomes in a very precise way – several different assessments of sexual function are used and the outcome for each patient will depend on a range of factors, not all related to the surgery itself.
Not surprisingly then, the reported outcomes from treatments vary widely. For example, following bracytherapy, rates of impotency are reported at between 14 and 61 per cent. Some of the widest variations occur in rates reported following prostatectomy. Impotency is reported in 26 to 100 per cent of patients and intact function from 9 to 86 per cent.
This makes it all the more important for each hospital unit to carefully measure and audit its own results.
Improvements in the techniques of specialist surgeons who undertake a large number of prostatectomies mean we are getting closer to obtaining the perfect result for patients – cure, continence and potency.
Although there are other factors which play their part in the recovery of erections (neurogenic, vascular and psychosexual), the results show patients do have better results following nerve-sparing surgery compared with non nerve-sparing.
The nerve-sparing techniques I have developed during the past 6 years, undertaking over 700 procedures, mean that 73 per cent of my patients who have had ‘high quality’ nerve-sparing prostatectomy’s have “good” erectile recovery (defined as being able to have an erection sufficiently rigid for vaginal penetration).
Achieving this is dependant upon extremely good technique throughout the whole procedure. Key elements include control of the dorsal vein complex after apical dissection of the prostate, accurate dissection of Denonvillier’s fascia, a three stage dissection of the neurovascular bundle (NVB), avoidance of energy, avoidance of traction and careful placement of anastomotic sutures.
However, despite the progress which has been made in recent years in nerve-sparing surgery, studies suggest that up to 73 per cent did not continue their treatment.
In many cases, the effectiveness of the treatment was below the expectations of the patients. This was cited as one of the main reasons for giving up on the treatment along with loss of interest in sex.
The Birmingham Prostate Clinic have established a dedicated Erection Clinic to recognise the needs of these patients and address some of the problems which have been identified. By combining established erectile dysfunction treatments with the right specialist support, we see patients return to more effective erectile function over time as they recover from surgery.
Medication alone is not sufficient to overcome all potential problems. Men need to have individually-tailored care and support to ensure they keep up with their treatment and effectively address the psycho-sexual factors which they face as they recover from surgery and return to normal life.

Knowledge of cable wire issues need help!!?
My son-in-law has just moved our tv from one side of the room to the other. In order to do so he needed to extend the wire. so a double female adapter was used to add another piece of cable…..now we have no cable when he connected the two wires he really crimped the male part alot actually it is now flat is this our problem? my daughter and I seem to think so… also we used doller store cable which has always worked for us but could attaching it to a sattelite cable be an issue? thanks for any help
Also these connections of new wire are exposed laying in the garden actually My daughter and I think that is a huge problem any expert input?
I am a bit confused with your question. Is this a Cable TV system? Or a satellite system?
Yes, the flattened crimp is probably a problem. The crimp should be just enough to hold the connector on. Crimping too much could cause the cable to short between the shield and center conductor. Cut off the end of the cable about an inch behind the connector and start over. You should also use the same type of cable you are extending, the cable type should be written on the side and say something like RG-6 or RG-59.
You also said the connections are “exposed and laying in the garden”. This really isn’t good, either. If water gets into the cable, you will have problems. Usually you want to use one continuous piece of cable for outdoor runs for this reason. At the very least, waterproof the connection by wrapping in fusion tape ( http://www2.acehardwareoutlet.com/(bh4hw5zmectvzm55gqqlobuc)/Email.aspx?SKU=2130000133 ) over wrapped in vinyl tape or use heat shrink tubing. These should be available at home improvement or hardware stores.

For completing the task on hand easily you must select the right Pex fittings. Pex fittings are better than normal pipes such as copper and iron for various reasons. Being a cross-linked polyethylene it is also much more durable than plastic pipes too. You can with the help of some research find the best fitting, tool and pipe for pex plumbing.
The crimping technique is normally used while working with pex plumbing. The three main tools required for this purpose includes the pipe cutter, the de-crimping tool and the primary crimping tool.
The primary crimping tool is available in various configurations based on your specific requirement. While some of the tools can allow you to crimp ½ inch, others have may have the ability for ¾ inch pex tubing. You can also re-use the Pex fittings easily with the help of the de-crimping tool. With the help of the pipe cutter you can make a neat square cure before inserting the tube inside the fitting.
Pex fittings are mostly manufactured using brass materials, although some dealers make use of artificially designed plastic fittings, bronze or copper for pex plumbing.
A high pressure seal can be created with the help of in ridges, pex tube and the crimped copper ring which can all work in combination.
Pex fittings are very flexible and durable and this is mainly owing to material used namely cross-linked polyethylene polymer of high density. The pipe is processed after continuous melting and extrusion into the tube. The pipe becomes more resistant to stress and temperature because of the cross-linking procedure.
The inception of pex plumbing procedure can be traced back to Europe and the U.S. This method has become very popular in recent times and many people prefer to incorporate the method of pex plumbing as it can effectively replace the use of traditional metallic pipes that can rust easily.
Some of the Pex fittings that are commonly used presently include straight couplings, tee fittings, female sweat adapters, copper crimps, end cap etc. The Hydro pex crimp fittings are very compatible with pex plumbing. These fittings also are of durable quality. The shark bite fittings are designed in such a way that they can be connected to pipes easily and instantly.
