CB Radio De-regulation?
Did you know that CB radio in the UK is being de-regulated on the 8th December 2006? This means from after that date you can get out your old UK27/81 and PR27GB radios and use them again legally without a licence? Did you also know that you can use CB while mobile? It isn’t illegal to hold a hand held microphone whilst driving so you can chat ‘in convoy’ quite legally…. give it another go ex-breakers…you know you want to, and now it really is free ;o)

All the information is on the Ofcom website. Using a hand held microphone is perfectly legal. Holding a mobile phone isnt… Personally I have never seen a mic wrapped around a steering wheel…

Yes i heard. I have an old cb in my cupboard and if i can get a cheap aerial i will try it again. I never liked the idea of paying £15 when the airwaves were never policed and idiots sorted out. I hear its a lot quieter now so ill give it another go.
You can still be done holding a mic if it impaires your driving, but that is it. reading the ofcom website it appears to be legal.

Canadian Satellite Radio
While the United States initiated the satellite radio evolution, Canada is now hot on their trails. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) began hearings in 2004 for applicants ready to develop Canada’s first satellite radio broadcasting. The Canadian satellite radio industry received quite a lot of interest and in the end three main applications were filed: XM filed one in partnership with Canadian Satellite Radio and Sirius filed an application with Standard Broadcasting and the CBC. The third application belongs to CHUM Limited and Astral Media and to many came as a surprise. That was mostly because CHUM Limited and Astral Media came up with a different solution that that proposed by Sirius and XM Radio. CHUM applied for a subscription radio service that is to be delivered through the already existing terrestrial DAB transmitters. In other words, the transmitters would be the ones receiving the satellite transmission, from where they would continue the broadcast to consumer owned receivers. While the CHUM Limited and Astral Media proposal offers an entirely Canadian approach, the first two bring in a blend of US based technology and Canadian broadcasting channels. XM Radio and Sirius had a slight advantage in the fact that the coverage area of their satellites already existed in parts of Canada, so a small audience was already using their services.
Three satellite radio services for Canada
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved all three applications in June 2005, but with a series of conditions imposed to the three solicitants. Here they are as required by the CRTC:
•A minimum of 8 channels must be produced in Canada and for each Canadian channel 9 foreign channels can be broadcast.
•At least 85% of the content on the Canadian-produced channels (whether musical or spoken word) must be Canadian.
•At least 25% of the Canadian channels must be French-language stations.
•At least 25% of the music aired on the Canadian channels must be new Canadian music.
•At least 25% of the music played on the Canadian channels must be from up-and-coming Canadian artists.
The three companies had to accept these conditions as they are part of the Canadian broadcasting regulations. The US companies and their Canadian partners began negotiations for tilting the rules in their favor. One of the main offers of both the Sirius and XM Radio partnerships was that they would play 50% French content as opposed to the 25% required by the CRTC. AS a results of the negotiations, XM Radio received 5 channels of National Hockey League Play-by-Play in addition to the channels they already had – XMs part of the deal was to cover the Canadian National Hockey League games. The fact that the US satellite industry giants were both allowed to broadcast on Canadian territory determined CHUM to appeal the decision at http://www.review9.info. They motivated their action by saying that the two US companies would simply “suffocate” CHUM with their presence in Canada, not allowing any room for development for the all-Canadian company. CHUM also complained about the deals that were cut with the two US companies. As a response, Canadian Satellite Radio and Sirius Canada said that CHUM is in fact trying to obtain monopoly over the Canadian satellite radio market for themselves.
Today’s Canadian satellite radio
One of the main complaints of the people of Canada was that the CRTC decision did not require sufficient Canadian content. This made the broadcasters come out with promises of additional French and Canadian content. The Canadian Federal Cabinet accepted the CRTC decision on September 10, 2005. XM satellite radio was launched on the 29th of November 2005 and Sirius was next on December 1. Monthly subscription rates are $12.99 for XM with a one time activation fee of $19.99 and $14.99 for Sirius, without any activation fees. Both companies are expecting rapid increases in the numbers o subscribers, although, in spite of the extra Canadian content they added to their air time, there are still quite a few voices protesting against the potential monopoly the two companies may get to in the near future.

My Motorola krzr has a mini SD memory card that i can put in
my PC with an adaptor.
You need a special usb cord which you can buy from your cell phone provider. They usually give you software with the cord but if not, you can go to download.com and download a program for your phone.

I’m looking for decent power, but not anything over the top. Probably somewhere near the 300wrms rating on each sub, but I know they can take more. Do you have any recommended amps or power ranges?

Alpine Car Subwoofers: Quality and Affordability
Alpine Electronics was founded in 1967 in Tokyo, Japan as part of the Japanese Alps Electric Co, which jointed with Motorola for the new name in a new country. It currently sells navigation and audio systems for cars. Alpine, although currently not the leading company in the car audio industry, has produced many lines of successful car subwoofers, all under $300 (with the exception of a couple of lines). The looks of the subwoofers are of note. Customers have reported that Alpine subwoofers are made so both sides look fantastic. One has even rated the clean look as a weakness, as a simple installation “will not visually do it justice”.
One of the more popular lines in the Alpine company, the Type-R series is also the largest: it has seven subwoofers compared to the three or four the other lines have. The Type-R series is composed of 10-inch, 12-inch, and 15-inch woofers. Alpine has really packed a whole lot into those inches, because there’s power, yet it doesn’t hurt like other subwoofers that sacrifice sound quality for strength. The two 15 inch products in the Type-R line are the only ones priced over $300, but that’s not to say they aren’t worth it. The entire line is priced as it should be, because high quality 15-inch subwoofers are actually quite difficult to find; most tend to stick to 10 and 12 inches. An owner of an SWR-1242D subwoofer (12 inches, part of the Type-R series) said that sound could be heard from the car from 2 miles away. He parked his car in a gas station and even made the shelves shake. You can get the 10-inch Type-R series for $200, the 12-inch for $220, and the 15-inch for $400.
It’s probably true that the second most popular Alpine is the Type-S series. It features two 12-inch and two 10-inch woofers. Combined with Alpine’s most famous products, their head units, the Type-S subwoofers are really something to deal with. As long as you supply these subs with the right power needed, you’re going to get clear cut sound that blasts straight through the air. The Type-S series is priced a bit lower, ranging from $150 for the 10-inch to $170 to the 12-inch.
Alpine surely delivers not only on quality, but just plain affordability. While leaders like JL Audio might charge over $400 for their 10-inch W7, Alpine maintains a high standard of sound quality at half the price, and sometimes even takes the jump and goes for sound pressure level as well. Nearly all of the Alpine series are absolutely worth the cash because they blast really well. They match up to Kicker and MTX any day, just at a lower price that won’t burn a hole in your wallet.

Powerful Mantra Meditation to Open the Seven Chakras
Of all the meditation techniques and yoga poses available to open the chakras, the following three stand out. Mantra meditation, chakra visualization meditation and kundalini yoga kriyas. These three techniques are the most widely used methods for activating the chakras and their widespread use is a testament to their effectiveness. In this article we will discuss the mantra technique in detail. We will go into, not only the good points of this meditation technique, but also discuss it’s drawbacks.
For those who are unfamiliar, I am going to briefly give an overview of the seven chakra system and then dive into the mantra technique for opening and balancing them. The seven chakra system model belongs to the school of Kundalini Tantra. It is a model which can effectively represent man in all his dimensions and complexities.
Essentially, a chakra is an energy vortex that resides in a particular location along the spine in the energetic body of man. The first chakra resides at the very base and the last at the crown of the head, with the others in between. Each chakra is responsible for the health of the organs and glands in it’s region and also responsible for certain personality traits and characteristics. Opening and balancing the chakra points, means to heal and rejuvenate the organs in the region of that chakra, and to balance the associated personality traits. So how do we go about using the chakra mantra meditation technique for balancing the chakra points? Let’s find out.
Associated with each chakra point is a seed sound, or bij mantra and chanting this mantra stimulates and activates the chakra. The bij mantras can be chanted either out loud or be done mentally, if you have a strong mind. A mala or beaded string can be used to count the number of repetitions of the chant, and this method of opening the chakras is very powerful. Herein also lies the problem.
Mantra meditation is too powerful a technique. The sound, when properly chanted directly begins to open the chakra point, and if the practitioner is not physically ready for dealing with the greater flow of energy that results from opening the chakra, it can lead to complications and imbalances. So it is very important to not overdo chakra mantra meditation. It should be used judiciously and only in conjunction with other techniques that are designed to prepare the system for greater flow of energy.
If you do feel ready to try this technique and incorporate it wisely into your meditation practice, here are the sounds associated with each chakra point that you need to chant.
Mooladhara: Root Center: LANG (LAM)
Swadhistana: Sex Center: VANG (VAM)
Manipura: Navel Center: RANG (RAM)
Anahata: Heart Center: YANG (YAM)
Vishuddhi: Throat Center: HANG (HAM)
Ajna: Third Eye Center: ONG (OM)
Sahasrara: Crown Center: Silence
So there you have one of the most powerful meditation techniques to open and balance the chakra points. Use this wisdom wisely and I am sure it will go a long way in helping you with your journey back to the source.
